Is it one outlet, one room, or the whole house?

Half the house. Kitchen and both bedrooms.

Quick one first — are any neighbours dark too? If they are, this is the utility, not your panel, and it costs you nothing.

No, everyone else has power

Then it's likely one leg of your service or a failing main breaker. That's a same-day diagnostic, $125, credited against the repair. Panel work also pulls a permit — the disclosure says we handle it.

What this chat can do

  • Work out whether you have a tripped breaker, a GFCI that needs resetting, or an actual utility outage — three very different problems and only one of them costs you money.
  • Route burning smells, scorched outlets, and buzzing panels to an emergency call instead of a next-day slot.
  • Tell you honestly whether a 100-amp panel can carry what you want to add, before anyone comes out to say it.
  • Write the scope of work down from your own description, so the price you get quoted is against something you already read.
  • Say who pulls the permit — you or the contractor — in writing, before work is scheduled.

Casabot gives general guidance and cost ranges. It is not an inspection, not a diagnosis, and not a binding quote — a licensed electrician has to see the panel and the run before any price is firm. If you see sparks or scorching, smell burning plastic, or your panel is hot or buzzing, shut off the main if you can do so safely and call 911 or an emergency electrician. Do not troubleshoot that in a chat.

Electrical chat FAQs

Is the chat really free?

Yes. No cost, no account, no card. You pay only if you book, and the diagnostic or trip fee is shown before you agree to it.

Half my house has no power. Is that an emergency?

Usually not an after-hours emergency, but it is worth diagnosing tonight. Half a house going dark often means one leg of the service or a tripped main, and the chat will help you tell that apart from a utility problem — including asking whether your neighbours are dark, which is the fastest way to know it is not your panel at all.

What if I smell burning or see scorch marks?

Shut off the main if you can reach it safely and call 911 or an emergency electrician. Casabot will stop the conversation and tell you the same. Scorching around a panel or outlet is a fire in progress or one about to start.

Can my panel handle an EV charger or a hot tub?

The chat can tell you what is typical for your panel size and what a load calculation usually finds, which is enough to know whether you are looking at a simple circuit or a service upgrade. It is not a substitute for the calculation itself — that is the electrician's job and in most places it is required for the permit.

Who pulls the permit?

Whoever the agreement says, and the chat makes you read that before you book. Permit responsibility is one of the most common disputes on electrical work, which is exactly why it is written down rather than assumed.

Why does it ask for the scope in my own words?

So the quote is written against what you actually described. A scope you read and approved before anyone came out is much harder to argue about later than one written at the truck.
